What is Talent Search?
Talent Search (TS) is a college preparatory program designed to provide academic skills and motivation for students who are interested in pursuing an educational program beyond high school. The program serves students in grades 6-12 at Agra, Billings, Blackwell, Carney, Cushing, Guthrie, Morrison, and Ripley.
Talent Search gives students a chance to learn first-hand what college life is all about and helps them develop skills necessary to succeed in college. The program emphasizes academic success in core subjects. Personal, career, and academic counseling is also provided.
Talent Search is one of the federally-funded "TRIO" programs that allows selected educational institutions or agencies to provide fundamental support to participants in preparation for college entrance.
What do the students do?
During the regular school year, TS students are in contact with staff members and tutors through activities, counseling sessions and tutorials. TS staff visit each school at least once per month for workshops to help prepare for college entrance. Field trips are also available so students visit college campuses and receive guidance as part of their college selection and application process.
TS hosts 4 summer mini-camps for 9-12 grade students on the Oklahoma State University campus. These camps are designed to acclimate students to life on a college campus while also participating in a variety of academic, social, and cultural activities.
