Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month

Recognizing and celebrating the contributions of our Hispanic/Latinx community
Hispanic/Latinx heritage was first declared as Hispanic Heritage Month in 1988, expanding from a heritage week started in 1968. September 15 was chosen to honor the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence the same week.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is an important reminder of how much strength we draw as a Nation from our immigrant roots and our values as a Nation of immigrants. It is a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Hispanic/Latinx community. Oklahoma State University recognizes the contributions and value the Hispanic/Latinx community brings to our nation and campus, OSU participates in the celebration pridefully.
